Sea Point is beautifully situated on the Atlantic coast and is one of the most popular neighbourhoods for tourists and digital nomads. Walking or jogging along the promenade must be a dream. I've always wanted to go to the swimming pool, which is right by the sea, but I haven't managed it yet. I would be lying if I said that I particularly like Sea Point, but of course I wouldn't turn down a house there if someone gave it to me as a gift. Then I could do a double backflip with a twist from the 3-metre tower of the swimming pool in the morning before drinking my latte macchiato. I would also have a cleaner from Khayelitsha who would need several hours on public transport to get to Sea Point in the morning. There are 2,090 Airbnbs listed in Sea Point, but not a single social housing unit.

Folgender Beitrag wird einer von vielen sein. Airbnb ist ein Thema, das mich sehr beschäftigt, auch weil es nicht nur ein Kapstadt Problem ist. Andere Städte, wie Barcelona, versuchen das Airbnb Problem schon zu lösen, in dem sie Airbnb verbieten und ehrlich gesagt finde ich es einen absoluten richtigen Schritt.1 Es lässt sich sicherlich diskutieren, ob ein Verbot notwendig ist oder ob sehr strenge Regeln und eine Behörde, die die Strafen durchsetzt, ausreichen würde.
Welches Airbnb Problem hat Kapstadt?
Ich werde nicht die gesamte Kapstadt Geschichte ausrollen, sondern lieber einen separaten Beitrag dazu erstellen. Zur Vorgeschichte muss trotzdem erwähnt sein, dass Coloureds und Blacks während der Apartheid aus der Stadt vertrieben wurden und irgendwo außerhalb der Innenstadt wortwörtlich in den Sand gesetzt wurden. Kapstadts Regierung, seit 2009 regiert von der Democratic Alliance (vergleichbar mit CDU/FDP), hat bisher noch keine einzige Sozialwohnung in der Innenstadt oder in den reichen Stadtteilen am Meer gebaut. Es wurden eher noch aktiv Sozialwohnungen verhindert.2
